Electronic Books in Spain in mid-2011

Publishers in Spain are losing money on the ebook, which still is not profitable last year but sales increased 27 percent from the sale of digital works.

Commented that the e-book sales do not cover the costs of major investments that have to do the publishers to digitize and publish books in electronic format.

To this is added that according to the editors player manufacturers are not making an effort to lower prices, that Spain has the internet "most expensive in Europe" and that e-books are not taxed at the reduced rate of VAT, 4 percent as paper books, but with 18.

The editors hope that the eBook in the future have a widespread use for the moment the data indicate that for every ten aircraft readers in Spain is a single download.

The Spanish seem to choose the moment for devices that offer more features and not by those who can only read e-book, unlike what happens in America. I must say that in the U.S. and sold more eBooks than paper books.

The challenge is to put more publishers offer electronic books in the hands of readers. Although in 2010 the titles digitized rose 140 percent and there are 27,000 references available, including low coverage specialized books.

The editors believe that ell traditional book will not disappear for many years and that both formats will coexist.

Like all sectors, the book is affecting the economic crisis and in 2010 some 70 publishing houses have disappeared, as many libraries and more than a hundred distributors.

At parecerecer also happens that in 2010 the library institutional purchases fell 43 percent and expect that this year is to reach a solution that allows the state to the autonomous money to buy more books.
