Leadership and Ethics - teach
I do not believe that unethical behavior can occur if a leader has unwittingly own values and intentions. A leader who is ethically basa not knowingly break the law, denying the rights, endanger the life or deceive or exploit employees, customers, stakeholders or society.
However, I believe that a leader may find himself ethically based in situations where they discovered that they have acted improperly because of others in power who have deceived the other in order to take advantage of the situation. For example, if a leader discovers funds have been misused or exaggerated expenses, or other discrimination or unethical behavior has occurred in a department or company, this becomes the moment of truth for any ethical leader. At that moment, a leader will make ethically based on the decision to fight to solve the problem within the company, notify the authorities or leave the company. This may sound simplistic, but I think if other leaders stood up against unethical behavior, there would be less of it.
In my opinion, the problem of corporate scandals refers to a general decline in ethical standards in society as a whole. An employee who betrays an expense account, or take supplies from the supply room, is guilty of stealing the corporate executive who tricks employees, customers or shareholders. While one may be more expensive and has a greater negative effect than the other, are both ethically wrong. For this reason, more time and energy must be spent to teach general ethics to employees and managers. With communication and training, it is clear to all parties involved what is ethical, and how to cope when problems are discovered.
I believe that a true leader must not only drive the results of a company, but must also fulfill their social contract they have with employees, customers, communities, etc. .. When the profits, career, and greed are not balanced with a social conscience, then the gray areas between right and wrong become more difficult to distinguish. When misuse of funds, or misappropriate the use of employees, discrimination, etc., occur all of us have a choice. We can ignore it, and become complicit in the problem. We can fight to improve the situation, in order to be a leader in improving the situation. Or, if we can not improve the situation internally, we can leave to find a better match ethics somewhere else .......
